The booming cannabis industry is our generation’s gold rush which some have realized faster than others. You do not have to be a grower of cannabis to be a part of it!
There are currently many thriving small businesses that serve the medicinal and recreational users from bakers to soap makers. All for the love of cannabis! The shift towards legalization in Canada will see the already number of small businesses in the industry grow exponentially.
I have heard multiple people comment “I am looking to get into the cannabis industry”. While it can appear overwhelming the cannabis community is anything but that. It is formed by people who have a genuine love for the plant and want to see the industry grow. You do not have to be a grower to be apart of the industry.
The key is to find your unique ability which consists of asking yourself a couple of questions. What am I really good at?
What am I passionate about?
What people, issues, projects or communities do you care about?
What was the last thing I was proud of doing?
What are skills that I have that other’s don’t?
What do I bring to a team setting?
What are some of the bigger problems I have solved?
Finding the answers to these questions can help on your journey of entrepreneurship and self-realization.
Look up local events or conferences that cater to the cannabis industry as many cities hold networking sessions. These events provide opportunities to speak in person with like-minded individuals who are just starting out or are seasoned vets in the industry. Social media is another way to reach out to the cannabis community. Simply by using the hashtag #cannabiscommunity to search content related to the community. Other common hashtags include #mmj for medical marijuana and #cbd for cannabinoids.
The number of resources that are available to educate yourself with online is astonishing. The only thing missing is your own determination! People always lament how they got into an industry or market early when the opportunities were plenty. The truth is time or lack of opportunities is just an excuse! Make the opportunity or demand! You are your own biggest excuse!
Do not live with regret and just sit on the sidelines twiddling your thumbs. By trying and becoming involved you have nothing to lose but everything to gain.
If you don’t ask the answer will always be ‘NO’ 🙂 So either stay put and watch while others strike gold or supply those pick and shovels. The choice is yours.
